The Photography
Collector's Primer

George Daniell (b.American, 1911-2002) began photographing after graduating from Yale in 1934. Through his extensive travel and professional assigments, his interests in subject matter ranged from humanistic portraits of local people to complex, modernist portraits of friends and celebrities, often revealing his celebration of the culture of celebrity. His work has been acquired by notable collectors such as Bruce Weber, and institutions such as The Art Institute of Chicago, Museum of Fine Art in Boston, the Pennsylvania Academy of Art, the Bowdoin College Museum, and the Colby College Museum. Upcoming selected solo exhibitions will be at the University of Maine Museum of Art and the Portland Museum of Art (Maine).
